I have occasionally encountered a third alternative, however. I have known at least one individual, who when shown absolutely irrefutable proof that he was mistaken would claim that he had never really held the now refuted view, and that the correct view was the one he had held all along, and that anyone who thought otherwise had merely misunderstood him. He simply could not accept or admit that he had ever been mistaken about anything.Gunnar
