This discussion came about because johny was upset by some swear words (though there were none in the post he was protesting). Somehow I don't think the harm caused by swear words remotely compares to the harm of religious fanaticism, as exemplified by those words from Brigham Young. Of course, there are other religious zealots who have suggested similar things - that life would be better if the "wicked" (defined as they find expedient, of course) were wiped out, but it's hard to imagine a more sinister religious idea than a doctrine that justifies murder as an act of love - killing the wicked to save their eternal souls. What could be more sickening? As always, I appreciate your comments, TLC. Craig |
