Yes, my remarks contained facetious elements, my friend, and I'm glad (but not surprised) that you picked up on that.

But in the context of Johny's post, wherein he reversed the value of scholarship and skill and hard work versus common business values, I contend that my comments were sound and appropriate. I honestly believe that Johny's values -- while sadly typical -- are inverted and wrong-headed, and further that he made a fool of himself in trying to defend his lousy grammar so ludicrously!

But I most emphatically do not deny or even doubt that honest businesses and businesspeople are absolutely vital to our economies, our lives, our health, and our high standard of living. I simply believe, as I said in my post to Johny, that businesspeople are replaceable, dime-a-dozen, cookie-cutter cogs and we'll always have enough average people to fill our society's need for them.

It is certainly true, however, that "if all people with a good business sense and management skills (including even the honest ones) suddenly died, those of us who were left would soon find ourselves in rather dire straits. But should that nightmare happen, I believe that more "C" students or perhaps some fairly simple computer programs could replace them in fairly short order.

Yet I'm afraid I must sharply disagree with your view that California's budget crisis is the fault of Davis and the legislature, at least the Democratic ones. The facts show otherwise. That crisis was caused by three factors: (1) The terrible national economy (largely due to George W. Bush and the Republicans); (2) Idiotic tax cuts (much like those of George W. Bush and the Republicans); (3) Businesspeople's greed, dire lack of ethics, and their criminal malfeasance, particularly in the case of the energy crisis that Kenneth Lay of Enron and other friends of the George W. Bush administration manufactured to cheat California!

Now, I certainly don't believe that Gray Davis and the California Democrats are blameless in all this, but I feel that your assignation of primary blame to the poor business acumen of Davis and legislature is unfair and unjustified. Californians were viciously screwed by businessmen!

In closing, I'd just like to reiterate that I consider my criticism of Johny's post -- which essentially contended that because businessmen and a bank manager were in his class where Johny claims they were taught false grammatical rules and that such rules were justified because of his fellow students' superior value to society -- to have been well justified and valid.

Respectfully,

- Martin
