Dear Brother, Why persecutest thou me? I don't understand why your web site is so dedicated to proving the Mormons wrong. I am assuming that you believe that Jesus Christ suffered for your sins just like I do, and as does every christian. I assume that you believe in his teachings whole heartedly. While I share with you this basic belief in Jesus, I don't understand why your website tries to tear people down. I'll admit, I am a latter-day saint, I was raised by two loving parents who are LDS. Please explain to me why it is so important. Is it a matter of exposing the truth for you? I have been taught all my life that if I want truth, that I can pray to God and ask him. If I am silent and at peace with myself the comforter will come and reveal in my thoughts and in my heart what I need to know. As often as I have been at peace with myself the Lord has always guided me. WWJD? I know that I feel the spirit of Christ when I go to church, just like other people who go to church. I know that I feel the comforter. I am taught to search out truth, search it out with dilligence. If I were to come accross something that I felt was true, I would be held accountable to live by it. I am so happy because of the teachings in this church. I don't understand why anyone would try and tear it down. What is wrong with a church that teaches christian principles? Please help me to understand your perspective. Sincerely, Luc Tussier Modified by Luc Tussier at Sun, Mar 17, 2002, 12:24:21 |

Luc,
"Why persecutest thou me?"
Luc, instead of being persecuted, you have chosen to be challenged. Have you ever stopped to THINK about how you came to BELIEVE the things you believe? Are you sure that what the "comforter" tells you is really what you want to know fulfilling the need to know? If you REALLY had the answers and felt completely comfortable, you wouldn't feel the need to post in such a forum. So congratulations for at least an indirect attempt at examining your beliefs.
"Please explain to me why it is so important. Is it a matter of exposing the truth for you?"
It is definitely a matter of exposing the truth! WHAT you believe in is understood and it is IMPORTANT to understand WHY you believe it.

I don't understand why your web site is so dedicated to proving the Mormons wrong.
It is not. It points out the good and the bad in Mormonism and the history from a realistic, rather than purely apologetic, standpoint.
I am assuming that you believe that Jesus Christ suffered for your sins just like I do, and as does every christian.
Why would you assume that?
I assume that you believe in his teachings whole heartedly.
Some are good--others aren't.
Please explain to me why it is so important.
Because truth is more important than tradition and the Mormon church can change, just like any other church or individual, for the better.

On what basis do you say that the statements of Jesus you cited are not good?

How many more of these testimonials will we have to endure? They nearly make me sick to make stomach, but at the same time make me laugh my pants off.
I guess the scary part is most of the world thinks this way about one deity or another. Hmm, does this kind of fervor toward a cause ring a bell? How about Islamic Jihad? Maybe the Manifest Destiny? How about the Colonization by Westenr European nations of the world?
When will humanity wake up? I'm afraid I'll be waiting in my grave for that.

Dear Luc:
I also am LDS, active, RM. I too have experienced spiritual experiences in the Church, and have felt the spirit you describe. I am grateful that people like you exist in this world. I hope you will always seek truth as you say from any source.
God is the embodiment of all truth and you cannot deny truth without denying God.
I promise you that if you seek truth you will discover that this at times will contradict theological, or cultural statements and assertions held dearly by the Church. The very concepts of the fall, the atonement, free agency, etc... as normally held, even perhaps by you, will be seriously shaken up. It doesn't matter, because if you seek truth, you will be willing to accept it also even if this means changing your whole view of things.
With great respect and hope for you, and those like you.
