Among the features of this forum that I've checked (and I am sure I haven't seen all of them) the one I like best, that didn't exist before, is the possibilty of accessing only the latest posts; 3 hours ago, 6 hours ago, ... and best of all the 'last visit.' I thought this needed acknowledgement. |

My experience with "last visit" is that it becomes useless after posting something. In other words, when you post something, your "last visit" becomes the time you posted. Also, if you change the setting to say, "3 hours", it always seems to revert to "1.5 hours" as soon as you read a thread or post.
At least those are my experiences, anyway...

"My experience with "last visit" is that it becomes useless after posting something. In other words, when you post something, your "last visit" becomes the time you posted." I am still trying to figure that out. So far I think when you post something and when you refresh the page, that becomes the 'last visit' but that only happens a fraction of the times for me. And of course the remedy is to look for new posts and read them after you post. This way you will not have lost anything.
"Also, if you change the setting to say, "3 hours", it always seems to revert to "1.5 hours" as soon as you read a thread or post."
I don't see anything wrong with that because you first get your 3-hour, or 6-hour, or whatever, page and when the 1.5-hour appears in the window is a 'reset' for the future. Nothing lost.

Bahman, Thank you for your reply.
You write: "I am still trying to figure that out. So far I think when you post something and when you refresh the page, that becomes the 'last visit' but that only happens a fraction of the times for me."
So far, so good (although my experience differs: I should have written previously that I not only lose "last visit" EVERY time I post, but also when I do any number of things. So I guess our experiences are not consistent).
However, when you write: "And of course the remedy is to look for new posts and read them after you post. This way you will not have lost anything", I'm afraid I do not follow you. Could you elaborate?
I had remarked previously: "Also, if you change the setting to say, "3 hours", it always seems to revert to "1.5 hours" as soon as you read a thread or post."
You replied: "I don't see anything wrong with that because you first get your 3-hour, or 6-hour, or whatever, page and when the 1.5-hour appears in the window is a 'reset' for the future. Nothing lost."
True, but I never said anything was lost in this case. It is just a huge and annoying nuisance to have to keep constantly and explicitly changing the setting to what you want. In other words, that "reset" feature is a pain in the posterior!
The "new" flag in the old forum handled these issues much better, in my view.
All in all, in my personal opinion, the ONLY feature of this board's software that is not handled much better in the old forum's software is the editing feature. Everything else here seems clumsy and ill-considered.
More than that, however, is the astonishing barrenness of this board! This board seems to have become comatose and near brain-dead. It's only a crippled, shadowy reflection of its former glory. I find that very sad...

"However, when you write: "And of course the remedy is to look for new posts and read them after you post. This way you will not have lost anything", I'm afraid I do not follow you. Could you elaborate?" Actually, after posting this, I am going to use the 'back-click' and see if it works. I'll let you know.

That is true only if one wants to always use the same setting. (I use different ones.) And even then, it is only one extra click. See you soon!

After posting the above, instead of clicking on 'current page' or 'forum,' I 'back-clicked' a few times and got to my original 'last-visit' page from last night; refreshed with my new post on it. So far so good. However, before jumping into final conclusion, we'll have to try it a few more times because as you mentioned I've seen some inconsistencies too.

Hello, dear fellow! Long time no read. I too have noticed the lack of inspiration here. It is unfortunate indeed. Here is to memories of discussions past, and to the possibility of a renewed vigor for our fair BB.

Hello to you, good sir! I'm sorry I missed this till now. As you can probably tell, I have been preoccupied by another issue here...
You graciously write: "Here is to memories of discussions past, and to the possibility of a renewed vigor for our fair BB."
An excellent toast! I raise a virtual glass to your honor...
