The recent Iraq debate began with us demanding that Iraq disarm. Now that we have actual pictures of missiles being destroyed, and it’s taken as proof that Iraq is not disarming. You see, this is why people turn to drugs. For your own personal mental health, instead of following the Iraq story, follow the North Korea story. Iraq is all bob and weave, thrust and ferry, yes means no, compliance means deception. But not North Korea. Look at the North Korea time line. October 4, they announce they are scrapping a nuclear weapon’s agreement, and come right out and say that they are developing nuclear weapons. December 12, they announce they will be restarting their nuclear reactor. December 27, they force the U.N. nuclear weapon’s inspectors out. January 10, they drop out of the nuclear non-proliferation treaty. February 6, they start the reactor to begin the process of making weapon’s grade plutonium. February 24, they test-launch an anti-ship missile. February 27, they confirm the weapons reactor is running. Then March 3, four North Korean fighter jets rise to meet an un-armed U.S. reconnaissance plane, arm their weapons, lock on to the plane and play with it for 22 minutes. You see what we have here? Good old-fashioned provocation, crystal clear, no pretense of cooperation, no moral doubt. The U.S. plane was unarmed, it was in international air space -- North Korea was ready to fire. The North claims the missions are a prelude to war. It’s so refreshing. Don’t you just want to grab that Kim Jong-il and pat his puffy little hairdo. :-) JAK
