Friends and Adversaries,

Last night I logged off from here sad and angry. I decided that my days as a regular 2Think poster were done. This kind of format is the very reason I have rejected other forums in favor of 2think. There is no separation of topics here as there was with Forum 1 and 2. I truly feel the discussions will eventually begin to run amuck and not only lose their continuity but their quality as well. I won't go down without a fight!

I did NOT ask for this! I did NOT ask for a chat feature, I did NOT ask for the ability to email people (I already have it), I most certainly did NOT request the ability to delete MY OWN posts! What I hoped for, and what a hand full of posters spent so much time discussing...was a THIRD FORUM. Martin and others offered to help rpcman do this and I do not know the status of those talks. Go back into the archives and look for that discussion. Anyway...here we are.

rpcman says we can go back to the old forum if that is preferrable to us. He says it will cost about $100.00 per month for the year 2002. How long have you engaged in discussion on 2Think? For me it has been over one year. I have done so from the comfort of my own home and FREE of charge! Yes, I am someone who would be willing to PAY for the old forums! What are the possibilities? Can we have a subscription? I don't know all there is to know about cyberspace...but there is one thing I do know how to do...and I'm doing it now.

Here it is straight up, straight out...

rpcman is NOT going to ask for the money FROM us. If you spend time here and if in your comparison, you prefer the old forums over this...the only way to go back...is for us to help keep the forums afloat financially in a cooperative joint effort. If you are willing to financially contribute to the care and feeding of Forum 1 and Forum 2...log in your affirmative here!

If I've got the information right...we need 20 names...TWENTY NAMES...of people willing to front $60.00 ONE TIME...to keep the old forums going. rpcman..if that figure is wrong then you correct me. TWENTY PEOPLE folks! The price tag is $60.00 for the year 2002. If you are interested please log in your vote as yes on the post title..place your comments within the post if you wish. If you are NOT interested please stay out of this thread...give rpcman a chance to collect names and count heads. The only way he can make an accurate determination as to feasibility is if he has a clear field of serious replies to count.

Are you in?

Vicki

p.s. rpcman...let this ride for a few days until people have started coming over here and get the feel for this new format so they can decide. If it goes well...you'll need to figure out how we can transfer the funds to you.

p.s. and to whom ever posted a remark below concerning the fights with AHF..I didn't read your post but I have good reason to believe you will not see such in the future.

What do you mean by this? I can very easily set up two separate forums if that is what you mean. If you mean that you don't like a threaded view then you merely need to click on "Overview" and it looks almost identical to the prior forums.

I can even set up a third forum if that is what you want but what would the topic be?

What I don't like is the way posts and responses disappear suddenly. I'm having a hard time following conversations or looking for my posts to see if anyone has responded.

But if it comes down to it, I'd be willing to kick in some $$$.

What happens is when you start viewing a string of replies, the other replies to the original posts (and the replies that go with them) aren't shown on the page anymore.

To view them again, you'd need to go back up to the original post. This feature is very useful for the 100+ threads we deal with. Instead of scrolling down and trying to find the line of discussion we are in, it will only show the one we are currently viewing.

And clicking on "Where Am I?" or "Top of Thread" will help. Also, you can view all the posts in a thread at once (like the old forum) by clicking on "View All" when you are at the top of a thread.

Also, if you click on your Author's Profile in the top left corner of your post, you can click on your active posts and see them all. That makes it easy to quickly check on all of the discussions you're in, it's much better than the search function on the old forum.

The "third forum" you asked for is simply an "inactive" folde,r which means posters can only view, not edit, or post replies to those threads.

We know what you did and did not ask for. But change was boudn to happen.

Users register. rpcman can delete users he feels are violating the rules, and doesn't have to put up with AOL domain names anymore.

You arne't required to use the chatroom feature. You are not required to rate posts. You are not required to use any of the features which you do not like.

If you like "plain and simple" (since you prefer the other forums), let me lay it out for you:

Your problems are solved. Trouble makers can no longer dwell in our forum. Off topic threads can be rated by users and marked "inactive." People can no longer use two nicknames.

Now that we've solved the problems we had witht he other software, you start complaining. What will it take for you to be satisfied?

If you don't like any of the forum layouts, I suggest learning CGI or PHP and start writing. I can give you example code if you'd like.
